Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020: A statement from our Chief Executive
A statement from Disclosure Scotland's Chief Executive, Gerard Hart.
“Today marks the introduction of five-year Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Moving from lifetime membership to a renewal period of five years is the next milestone in ensuring that the PVG scheme focuses on those actively carrying out regulated roles. This includes our daily checking of everyone in the PVG scheme to make sure no new evidence of harmful conduct has emerged.
“The PVG scheme is a national cornerstone in protecting children and vulnerable adults, but it is also important that it remains proportionate and targeted to those doing regulated roles.
“Being in the PVG scheme demonstrates to employers and service users alike that safeguarding values underpin Scotland’s public services, allowing the public to use these services with increased confidence and assurance. Disclosure Scotland listens to customers and stakeholders and has driven digital innovation into all our products. This partnership has been extremely helpful, and I aim to see it continue in future.”
